MOBILE SURI STUD SERVICE

Breeding Options and Fees

We offer you the opportunity to choose the best and most convenient method for breeding your dams either on your farm or at the Wild Rose Suri Ranch.  In addition to offering resident breeding services where your female alpaca stays at our farm for 60 days, we offer "drive-by" breeding at our farm, or we will bring the stud to your farm to service your female alpacas.

We will help you to choose the herd sire that will help you meet your farm breeding goals for conformation, fleece, disposition, and color based on the characteristics of prior crias produced, and the dam's dominant traits.

Option A:  Wild Rose Suri Ranch Brings Stud Male to Your Farm

This option is best for dams that don't travel well, stress easily or don't do well off the home farm.  These females are very sensitive to any type of change in their environment or management, or their crias require more attention and care during those first few months of life.  They tend to lose weight or remain very thin while nursing the cria and may have poor appetites and require more intense daily care.  Wild Rose Suri Ranch will schedule a breeding date based on the dams cycle or 14-21 days after the birth of the cria.  Stud fee includes 2 trips (2 breeding cycles) to the dam owner's farm within a 120 mile radius of Havre de Grace, MD as calculated by MapQuest.  Additional mileage is at a rate of $.75 per mile over the 240 mile roundtrip.

Option B:  Customer Brings the Dam to Wild Rose Suri Ranch for a Drive-By Breeding

This option is best for dams that stress easily or don't do well off the home farm. Stud fee and discounts include up to 4 scheduled breedings as required to achieve pregnancy.

A discount of $250 from the current breeding fee is applied when the dam achieves a pregnancy as a result of the Drive-By breeding at Wild Rose Suri Ranch.  If the dam cannot achieve a pregnancy, then it is recommended that the Dam stay at Wild Rose Suri Ranch for breeding management and monitoring, at which time the discount is not applicable and the service reverts to the standard on-farm breeding contract.

  1. You work off the farm and/or your travel schedule does not allow you to closely manage the breeding / teasing process to best obtain pregnancy and confirmation.
  2. You are confident that the dam adjusts well off the home farm.
  3. You  live too far to make a drive-by breeding or mobile breeding practical.
  4. Your dam(s) is a problem breeders needing close management and may need the assistance of a camelid vet, ultrasound, and tracking of hormone levels and follicles.
